My love affair with swarovski began more than a decade ago. Swarovski crystals caught my eye when I was totally into making earrings which I sold to friends, family and to total strangers. I started off with plastic beads, progressed to glass beads and then to the cheaper semi-precious stones. Back then, I was like a vulture. I would look out for closing down sales involving the smaller jewelry stores and zoom in on the semi precious stones.

Then I discovered Swarovski. I was able to get wholesale quantities of their crystal beads which were the most beautiful beads I had ever had a chance to work with. They were even more beautiful then the semi precious stone chips I had. Yes, these crystals were made of glass, but they were cut so beautifully, with the reverence that might be given a diamond. Oh yeah, I know these were cut precisely by machines, but the romantic aura surrounding swarovski crystals and the jewelry they were eventually used to create is undeniable. Until now, I think swarovski earrings are the most beautiful earrings around, in the affordable range, that is. I wouldn"t trade a pair of diamond chandelier earrings for anything else, but I doubt if I could ever own one of those in a lifetime.

Swarovksi crystal earrings, however, are attainable. Hey, I could even have an entire personal jewelry wardrobe filled with swarovski earrings.

I drool over real diamond earrings but even if I could afford them, would I wear a diamond chandelier out in the open? Would stunning diamond earrings be suitable for travel?

They are perfect if you want your ears ripped off by a thief who wants to steal the diamonds. Not very wise for wearing in public and even more dangerous if you travel.

Swarovski earrings, on the other hand, are perfect for everyday wear, for partying in public areas and even for travel. Hey, you get to look glamourous without having to worry about getting precious jewels stolen.

I think it is the price that clinches the deal. Okay, a brand name like swarovski does not come cheap. Then again, you do pay for the quality. I have used austrian crystals from other competing companies back in my jewelry making days. Although those crystal beads were beautiful, they lacked the perfection seen in swarovski crystals. In fact, these crystals looked like sad imitations of swarovski crystals when placed side by side. Those other crystals were poorly cut compared to swarovski crystals. The symmetry wasn"t as perfect. You know when you buy diamonds, the 4 Cs are important. Cut is one of the factors in defining the quality of a diamond. Cut, meaning the proportion by which the diamond is faceted. The ideal cut would cause the maximum fire. Likewise, the crystal that is cut perfectly would be more brilliant than one that is poorly cut.

When I sold earrings made of swarovski crystals, I charged a premium for them as the quality of the crystals were a class of their own.
